We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our well established service in Redbridge, part of the North East London Foundation Trust to develop a specialism in feeding and complex needs.

Working as part of this team you will provide a service for children presenting with a range of speech, language and communication and feedingdifficulties within the Child Development Centre and a Primary special school. The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Redbridge operates within a multi-disciplinary team for children with additional needs and disabilities. We offer:

 Candidates will need to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Excellent clinical skills in terms of assessment and therapy for children with speech, language and communication and feeding needs
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team member

The main responsibilities of the post: 

  • To contribute to the provision of speech and language therapy clinical care pathways across Redbridge
  • To deliver comprehensive formal and informal assessment, and make differential diagnosis on the basis of this assessment
  • To develop evidence based intervention programmes, adapt and facilitate therapy and the use of augmentative communication systems according to client centred needs
  • To work closely with clients, carers, families and school staff to embed inclusive speech, language and communication practice both at home and within the classroom.
  • To contribute to both uni and multi-disciplinary team working to ensure co-ordinated service provision
  • To attend relevant training courses, meetings and clinical excellence network meetings in order to maintain skills and knowledge required of a Speech and Language Therapist working in the field of paediatrics

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Assessment/Interview info

At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. If you are shortlisted, invited for interview and successfully offered the post, you will be required to undertake an assessment for these skills during the pre-employment checks.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement – London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £3,722 to a maximum of £4,743).
