A vacancy for a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist has arisen at NELFT NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated speech and language therapist to be part of our Integrated Paediatric Therapy team and contribute to the future of our service. 

Our team is based at the Acorn Specialist Children’s Centre - a purpose built one stop healthcare centre for children and young adults in the borough of Havering. We have an extensive range of assessments, therapy materials and other resources. Our team is part of the Integrated Paediatric Therapy Department which includes Speech and Language Therapists, Paediatricians, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Psychologists amongst other key professionals. We have a strong focus on multi agency working across health and education.

The therapist will work in the community with a preschool and school aged caseload across Havering. Havering is a large borough situated in the North East London (NEL) sector, with easy access to public transport and major road links. It is ideally placed on the outskirts of London just 20 minutes by train to the heart of the capital.

It is also located within very close reach of the M25 which links us to the country, local cities as well as all London airports. Westfield Shopping Centre is 20 minutes away by car or train. Havering has a range of shopping centres, bars, restaurants, leisure facilities and cinemas to accommodate for a range of interests.

The successful applicant will need to be able to:

Work collaboratively with a range of people, including parents/carers and other professionals.

  • Demonstrate clear clinical reasoning based on evidence based practice within paediatrics.
  • Work as part of the integrated therapies team ensuring the delivery of joined up care plans.
  • Present information written and orally in a clear and logical manner.

The main responsibilities of the post include:

  • Provision of speech and language assessment, treatment, management and advice to children, young people and their families/carers, and other professionals in a range of settings.

  • Management of own preschool and school age caseload in accordance with local and professional guidelines and following current research evidence.

To work collaboratively with family/carers and all agencies involved with the child’s care, encompassing all public and private sectors to enable the provision of the highest standard of care to maximize the child’s level of function in accordance with trust and government recommendations.

The successful candidate will be provided with a clinical supervisor to support them in the induction to the team, management of their time and work load and general clinical support. Our team is highly dedicated to continuing professional development and regularly organises peer supervision and in-service training. There are opportunities for career progression through further training and access to CENs.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Assessment/Interview info

At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham Essex

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £3,659 to a maximum of £4,664).
