We are looking for a knowledgeable, dynamic and innovative Clinical Psychologist with CAMHS (or similar) experience to join our West Essex Emotional and Wellbeing Community Mental Health Team.  This innovative post will offer the post holder an opportunity to support the process of assessment and therapeutic intervention being delivered to young people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. 

You will be a qualified and UK registered Clinical Psychologist who is able  to undertake a variety of psychological assessments (eg: autism and cognitive) and ideally have a range of experiences working with young people and their families. Although this post does not have management responsibility, you will be interested in supporting colleagues by being part of a multi-disciplinary team, and offering consultation or supervision to CBT therapists, trainee’s and assistant psychologists.  You will also have the opportunity to deliver training as part of the rolling CPD programe.  You will contribute to the ongoing development of the psychology service in EWMHS by working closely with the EWMHS Essex psychology team and the West Essex Educational Psychologist.

West Essex EWMHS consists of a variety of disciplines giving opportunity for learning through MDT discussion, joint case work and CPD, as well as outside courses. We value all the members of our team, and ensure a positive work environment by holding regular team events, away days, weekly in-house team wellbeing sessions.  We recognise the importance of developing and maintaining reflective and respectful team dynamics and encourage a whole team approach to complex case discussions.   Regular supervision for your own work will be provided by a senior experienced psychologist. 

Our service is based on the CYPT IAPT model ensuring our commitment to a high standard of service to the whole community.  You will have the opportunity to collaborate in research and clinical audits to inform the on-going development of the service.

The West Essex EWMHS team is based in Harlow, with provision delivered in Dunmow, Saffron Walden, Loughton and Epping areas.

NELFT’s EWMHS is for anybody aged between 0-18, living in the Southend, Essex and Thurrock areas and is free at the point of entry. The service is also for young people with special educational needs (SEN) up to the age of 25. The CAMHS Tier II and Tier III services no longer exist, replaced with an integrated EWMHS. Any young person experiencing emotional wellbeing or mental health problems, (or any parent, guardian, professional or teacher of a child who is experiencing emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties), may access our service.

Since 1 November 2015, we have been gradually rolling out these services:

• Preventative programs in schools, children’s centres and other local places

• Advice, training and support for other health and social services

• A range of services including parenting and family groups, short psychological treatments and mindfulness in schools

• More in-depth psychological treatments, which are evidence based and delivered by highly skilled practitioners in specialist teams

• Help and support for all young people at times of crisis

• Online and digital services such as Big White Wall

All referrals to the service are assessed using a care pathways approach, developed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance criteria (NICE) and based on a best practice model of treatment.

Locality Teams in EWMHS The aim of our new EWMHS is to respond earlier to children and young people’s needs in order to help prevent, reduce or delay the need for more specialist interventions. This transformation of children and young people’s mental health services has a clinical focus, integrated with local authorities to deliver a long term collaborative approach to planning and delivering services.

EWMHS focuses on emotional wellbeing as well as mental health and includes access to self-help tools and services based in schools and the community. The CAMHS Tier II and Tier III service no longer exist, replaced with an integrated EWMHS. Training and support is available to other professionals and agencies. We are creating a modern service that fits with children’s lives in a way that best suits them. Key new features include a Children’s Single Point of Access (CSPA) into the service, clear early signposting, and use of digital channels such as Big White Wall to access support and services. The service is driven by the principles underpinning the national CYP-IAPT programme (Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies); evidence based interventions, routine measurement of outcomes, access to high quality training and supervision for professionals and true co-production with children and young people. Each locality EWMHS team has four care pathways.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. If you are shortlisted, invited for interview and successfully offered the post, you will be required to undertake an assessment for these skills during the pre-employment checks.

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,017 to a maximum of £1,762)
