Community Treatment Team (CTT) has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist with an interest to work in a fast paced crisis team.

Please note: THIS IS NOT A MENTAL HEALTH TEAM

CTT covers 3 of London’s Boroughs - Havering, Barking & Dagenham & Redbridge for adults over 18 and is based in the community and the Emergency Department in Romford. The service aim is to assess and treat frail patients in their own homes and avoid unnecessary hospital admission. The service provides an alternative management/care plan to support the patient at home or refer them to the most appropriate pathway/intermediate care service.

CTT also work in collaboration with London Ambulance Service responding to 999 calls. The therapists within the team have the opportunity to work with the CTT/LAS car to support the service aim. CTT consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Health Care Assistants, Nurses, Doctors and Social Workers. 

Due to the crisis nature of the role the therapist will be supported to extend their skills in order to recognise a deteriorating patient, i.e, vital signs check. Full support of the Multi-disciplinary Team is provided with complex patients, therefore effective team working and communication skills is paramount. 

The role will require the successful candidate to work as part of the team in the community and Emergency Department (ED).  The candidate will complete a patient-centred, holistic and comprehensive functional assessment to manage them through their crisis, whilst ensuring patient safety is maintained. Moving and handling assessments are regularly carried out within the CTT team, whereby access to various M&H/ADL equipment is provided. 

In both areas the candidate will need to work using current evidence based therapy techniques, providing thorough and rapid assessments, facilitating a quick and effective discharge home or avoiding ED attendance. Communication with internal MDT, as well as the wider MDT is promoted in order to ensure the patients’ needs are prioritised and kept at the forefront of the service aims.  

The therapist will be expected to supervise and manage junior members of staff and be supported to develop and deputise for senior members of staff in their absence. You will be supported to undertake clinical educator’s course and support students. Continuing professional development is promoted within the team. Internal and external training opportunities are available.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). 

At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,560 and a maximum of £4,743)

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham Essex
