An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Highly Specialist Adult Speech and Language Therapist to cover a maternity leave vacancy on a part time basis (22.5 hours per week) for a period of 9 months.

This dysphagia specialist post is based at Porters Avenue Health Centre in Dagenham. The post holder will be responsible for the management of adults with acquired disorders of swallowing arising from a variety of conditions. The post will involve visiting nursing homes and patients own homes, as well as seeing patients in a clinic setting.

The community service runs weekly video fluoroscopy clinics and fortnightly FEES clinics at the acute hospital site, therefore experience of either of these instrumental assessments is desirable.

The post holder will contribute to service developments and audits within their area of specialism plus provide specialist training and supervision to junior colleagues and other health professionals.

Applicants should have significant knowledge and experience of working with adults with acquired disorders of swallowing, excellent organisational and prioritisation skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

CPD is actively encouraged and supported through regular clinical supervision, appraisals and excellent training opportunities.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £3,659 to a maximum of £4,664).
