We know you have skills working with children with autistic spectrum disorders and their families. Expand your knowledge and skills with the specialist team working with ASD. Based at Great Oaks Clinic, Basildon, the post holder will work closely with the specialist ASD speech and language therapists in Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock and the specialist health visiting teams. You will work in children's homes, clinics, pre schools and schools in Basildon and sometimes Brentwood or Thurrock.

The post holder will work under supervision of qualified speech and language therapists to support the implementation of therapy programmes, also able to work under your own initiative.

You will join a supportive and established team, and have an interest in developing skills in working with children who have communication difficulties as part of their ASD

Essential criteria for this post include:
• 3 years experience of working children who have speech, language and communication difficulties
• Able to communicate factual information to clients, carers families and multidisciplinary team members / other professionals, in written and verbal form
• Basic awareness of IT and IT skills

The main responsibilities of the post:

• To assist the speech and language therapists in providing a high standard speech and language therapy service by the implementation of therapy programmes.
• To carry out intervention following aims given by the therapist
• To prepare the therapy environment, including the making and preparation of therapy materials and activities, ensuring the  equipment is available and in good condition.
• To carry out administrative tasks as requested by the supervising therapists including arranging appointments and maintaining the electronic patient records.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Assessment/Interview info

At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. If you are shortlisted, invited for interview and successfully offered the post, you will be required to undertake an assessment for these skills during the pre-employment checks.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement – Essex

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,017 to a maximum of £1,762)
